Hi All, every year I like to rip off a holiday song for my closing blog post and this year is no exception. I decided to go with a New Year’s song rather than Christmas (Hanukkah is no good because once you’ve knocked off Dreidel, Dreidel you are pretty much done with the genre). So here it is, my homage to the unstable stock market, which is always a leading indicator of what will happen to the venture marketplace. It’s been a bit of a dark year so this song captures that spirit. May the road rise to meet your current valuation!
Happy New Year! Lisa

Yeah…
On a diet on New Year’s Day
All the investors, off the fairway
They want to exit you
Exit you night and day
Market may crash post New Year’s Day
Post New Year’s Day
I will re-price you again
I will re-price you again
A deal, despite the price last paid
I want to sell my shares
Get debt repaid by today
Before markets crash post New Year’s Day
Don’t make me fund you again
Don’t make me fund you again
Cash flow is blood red, sigh
Valuation hard to justify
Market dives, Investors blue
When NASDAQ falls, pray pray
Pray venture won’t too….
And we can sell out
And fly the coop
Man this ain’t fun
I…I will invest again
I…I’m staying Zen
Oh
Maybe the time’s not right
Oh, maybe sit tight
I will sell my shares and run
I will sell my shares and run
And so we’re told this is the perfect stage
To put in cash, don’t worry it’s all the rage
Though it’s way overvalued
Close the deal, by end of day
Market crash don’t come!

And in case you need to hear the original to fully appreciate my parody, here you go (featuring a young Bono and crew):
And if after that, you are searching for a reason to go on, I recommend this study demonstrating that alcohol, coffee and being a bit overweight help you live longer.
