Well, it’s that time of year again, nearly the holidays. Whether you are more of a Hanukkah person or prefer Kwanzaa, all the good songs come out of the Christmas tradition, and so that’s where I have to go for material.
Over the past few years I have written such holiday classics as:
- The 12 Days of Start-Up Christmas
- Healthcare Reform is Coming to Town
- Twas the Night Before HIT Implementation
- The Big Data Song
But having just returned from the HIMSS Mhealth Summit (motto: oh look, another remote monitoring company!), I thought I would go the digital health route this year. So here it is, my new classic sung to the tune of It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas:
Digital Health: It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like a Business
It’s beginning to look a lot like a business,Ev’rywhere you go;
Take a look at your iPhone and visit the app store again,
With a zillion health apps in a row. It’s beginning to look a lot like a business,
FitBits on every wrist;
But the prettiest sight to see is the green of the money, When business models exist. An app that closes health loops and another to serve care groups Is the wish of medical men;
Sensors that squawk when mom goes for a walk,
Is the hope of grown children; And consumers are warming up to wellness campaigns. It’s beginning to look a lot like a business
This crazy digital health show;
There’s apps to warn that you fell, and took the right meds as well, And ones that diagnose you head to toe. It’s beginning to look a lot like a business;
Maybe profits will start;
And the thing that will make us sing is the returns that investments bring, Warming every VC’s heart!
And if this leaves you longing for the original, here is the great Johnny Mathis:

Wishing you and your family happy holidays and an even better New Year.
